Assigned School Visitation

Day 8 (Monday, January 14, 2019)

      Pre-deployment Orientation

Today was the most awaited Monday of all the SEA-Teachers because this day we were able to get a glimpse of the place we’ll be staying for weeks. Before that we were called for an orientation together with other SEA-Teachers. Pak Ananda was the one who oriented us with the programme structure. According to him, our first week will just be orientation and class observation. For the second and third week we will be assisting and teaching in the classroom. Then on our fourth week, we will still be teaching in classroom and eliciting learnings. He also presented the tentative daily program structure. Additionally, he reminded us about the evaluation of our teaching practicum. It is advisable for us to make and update our blog so that we will receive the certificate from SEAMEO.

After our orientation, we rode the UNP bus together with Pak Ananda and Miss Ari to personally talk to the school administrators that we’ll be staying. I was the third time to be dropped in my assigned school. Pak Ananda and Miss Ari made some arrangements with the school principal and the cooperating teacher about my teaching practicum. They welcomed me and asked me things about my home country Philippines. After they talked, Pak Ananda and Miss Ari left me in SMAN 10 and so I was able to introduce myself to the interns from UNP. Just like me they will also have their teaching internship but for four months. At first it’s very hard to memorize their names like Prilly, Ayuni, Firdaus, Aulia, Putri, Vingki, and Zadev. I also had the chance to ask the Head Teacher about my dress code for my internship. She said that I cannot wear my practice teaching uniform like what I wore today. It would be better if I will wear a long skirt and long sleeved-blouse. On the other hand, my cooperating teacher named Bu Nini tasked me to teach her Grade X-MIPA 5,6,7, and 8. She said that I cannot handle the Grade XII students because they are reviewing for their examination. My cooperating teacher gave me the class record, class schedule and sample activity worksheet for the students. She told me that I will start teaching on Thursday with the topic about Kingdom Plantae. With that, my buddy and I went to the school library to look for a bilingual Grade X Science book so it will be easy for me to make lesson plan. Luckily, the librarian was very accommodating and approachable, we were able to find one and borrowed it. I need to be ready for Thursday then!
